Expiacerents on the sites on which they formerly stood than in

connection with the replacement of the various piers and per-

-manent buillings which were destroyed on that occasion and are

now being rebuilt on their former sites. i would suggest, hon-

-ever, that greater security would be given to the slectric

Light Emplacements if their floors were raised above the level

of the Prays so that the waves would strike ther with less force

and would have an outlet under them over the Praya.

1 observe from your letter that the light-

-ing schens alll possibly be modified. in these circumstances i

shall be prepared to consider any new sites involved by the

modification which you may suggest as enabling the lighting of

the Western entrance to the harbour to be efficiently carried

out without obstructing the city roadways.

In the meantime you are at liberty to run

the lights from temporary platforms if at any time urgent neces-

-sity for their inaliate use arises and on the 3rd, to 9th. of

Decomber next in connection with the half-yearly continuous 8

nights running which is laid down by regulations.
